The X Subscription is the new single plan for Grok, Cursor and X Premium, and its price runs from free to US$200 a month, with paid tiers at US$8, US$30, US$100 and US$200. SpaceX Super Intelligence (SpaceXSI), the company formerly known as xAI, announced it on Oct. 12 and says it reaches every user worldwide over the following few days. Current SuperGrok, Cursor and X Premium subscribers don’t have to switch, and anyone who does gets a prorated refund for the old plan.
That is the short answer. The longer one depends on how you use these products, because the bundle changes more than the price. Grok and Cursor now draw from one shared weekly usage pool, and the Claude and GPT models many Cursor users rely on are no longer included in any plan.
X Subscription price by tier: Grok, Cursor and X Premium
Here are the five individual tiers as listed on SpaceXSI’s pricing page and its developer docs. Usage is measured against the Plus tier. The Canadian dollar column is our conversion at about 1.39; X’s pages list only US$ prices, which exclude sales tax.
| Tier | Monthly | Annual | About CA$ / month | Usage vs. Plus | Key additions |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | US$0 | US$0 | CA$0 | Limited | Daily Grok access, a starter Cursor allowance, standard X |
| Plus | US$8 | US$80 | CA$11 | 1x | Grok Chat, Voice, Imagine and Build; Grok API; Cursor; X checkmark, fewer ads |
| Premium | US$30 | US$300 | CA$42 | 4x | Grok Bot, latest Grok models, cloud agents, AI code review, X Premium+ benefits |
| Super | US$100 | US$1,000 | CA$139 | 15x | Priority model access at peak times |
| Ultra | US$200 | US$2,000 | CA$278 | 50x | Highest usage pool |
One correction to early coverage. Some reports, including Android Headlines, gave Ultra 20 times the usage of Plus. SpaceXSI’s own announcement and pricing docs say 50 times.
The dividing line is Premium. Below it, Plus buys a checkmark and more Grok and Cursor usage but no Grok Bot, the always-on agent we compared with its rivals in our always-on AI agent guide, and none of what the pricing page calls the “latest Grok models.” Premium and above get full X Premium+ benefits, according to the X Help Center, and the pricing page adds ad-free scrolling on most surfaces.
Teams can buy Premium, Super or Ultra seats at the individual prices and mix tiers within one team. Plus isn’t sold to teams.
Is the US$30 Premium plan actually cheaper?
SpaceXSI’s pitch rests on one comparison. Premium, it says, combines the benefits of SuperGrok, Cursor Pro and X Premium+, which it says previously cost US$90 a month combined. At US$30, that is a third of the old total for someone who paid for all three.

Each comparable new tier provides more usage-per-dollar than the plan it replaces. SpaceXSI announcement, Oct. 12
The tier ladder bears that out on paper. Divide each price by its usage multiple and Plus costs US$8 per unit of usage, Premium US$7.50, Super about US$6.67 and Ultra US$4. Annual billing cuts roughly another 17%: Premium works out to US$25 a month at US$300 a year.
Two things weaken the math. First, the savings only apply if you were paying for all three products. If you only used Cursor Pro, a plan Cursor users on its forum describe as costing US$20 a month, the cheapest bundle with comparable coding features is Premium at US$30. Second, “usage” is now one pool. SpaceXSI says each plan includes at least twice the coding usage of the comparable Cursor plan, but the same pool also feeds Grok chat, image and video generation and Grok Bot.
Early users have noticed. On Cursor’s community forum, one subscriber who moved from Cursor Pro to the new Premium reported that weekly usage drains at the same rate as Grok Bot alone, so it felt like less. The pool refreshes weekly, not monthly, according to the forum announcement.
The catch for Cursor users: Claude and GPT now cost extra
This is the change most likely to matter to developers. Third-party models in Cursor, such as Anthropic’s Claude or OpenAI’s GPT, are not part of any plan’s included usage. They are billed at API list prices from the first request, paid from prepaid credit, according to the X Help Center. In Cursor itself, they require Premium or above.
Cursor plans kept on the old terms hold onto their included third-party usage until the subscriber switches, the forum announcement says. Once you move, every Claude or GPT request is metered. Asked whether the new Ultra includes Cursor Ultra, Colin, who posted the announcement on Cursor’s forum, replied: “It isn’t the same as the previous Cursor Ultra plan.”
The commercial logic is plain. SpaceX bought Cursor for US$60 billion in a deal that closed in August, Teslarati reports, and the outlet also reports that OpenAI plans to cut Cursor’s access to its models on Nov. 12. We have not confirmed that date with OpenAI. Our read: including Grok usage while metering rivals steers developers toward SpaceXSI’s own models. Musk announced the rename from SpaceXAI on Oct. 4, Teslarati notes, and the “super intelligence” branding has since spread to Washington’s Super Intelligence Force.
What happens to your X Premium, SuperGrok or Cursor plan
Nothing changes unless you act. Switching is optional, and your current plan, price and features carry on until you change or cancel them, the help page says. When the switch option appears in your billing settings, here is what happens:
- Your selected Cursor, SuperGrok and paid X Premium plans are cancelled at checkout, with an automatic prorated refund for unused time sent to the original payment method separately from the new charge, per the pricing docs.
- A new billing cycle starts the day you switch.
- Cursor bought through Apple’s App Store is not cancelled. You must cancel it in iPhone or iPad Settings and ask Apple for any refund.
- Grok or X Premium bought through the App Store is cancelled by X, which asks Apple to refund the unused time. Apple decides.
- On Google Play, check after switching and cancel there if the old plan still shows as renewing.
- Gifted X Premium and Apple Family Sharing plans are not cancelled or refunded.
The switch is one-way. “A completed unification is permanent,” SpaceXSI’s account guide says, and Support cannot undo it. Only personal X accounts can be connected; organisation-managed and affiliate accounts can’t.
How to switch, and when to stay put
The route depends on where you pay today, per the unify guide:
- X subscribers: on x.com, open your subscription settings, select upgrade, choose a plan and sign in to Grok if prompted.
- Grok subscribers: on grok.com, go to Settings, then Billing, and click Get started (or start at accounts.x.ai/unify).
- Cursor subscribers: go to cursor.com/unify, click Get started and pick a primary account if you have several.
- Everyone: check that the X, Grok and Cursor accounts shown are the ones you mean to merge before checkout. Work and personal accounts will merge if you sign in with both.
Our read on who should do what:
- You only want the X checkmark: Plus at US$8 is the cheapest paid tier.
- You paid for SuperGrok and X Premium+, or all three: Premium at US$30 is likely a saving. Annual billing brings it to US$300.
- You code in Cursor mainly with Claude or GPT: wait. Your current plan keeps its third-party allowance; the new one meters every request.
- Your Cursor plan is billed through the App Store: plan to cancel it yourself, or you could pay twice.
Google reshuffled its own AI plans on Oct. 9, when it trimmed what free users get, as we explained in our Gemini free tier guide. More on paid AI plans in consumer apps.
For a Cursor Pro user with a Claude habit, the honest arithmetic is this: US$30 a month, a weekly pool shared with Grok Bot, and an API bill for every Claude prompt. The old US$90 comparison assumes you wanted X Premium+ in the first place.
