The Discovery Plus price increase is US$1 a month on the ad-supported plan and US$2 on ad-free. In the US, Discovery+ with ads now costs US$6.99 (was US$5.99) and ad-free costs US$11.99 (was US$9.99) for anyone signing up since Oct. 13, Cord Cutters News reported, while existing subscribers get 30 days’ notice and see the new price on bills dated on or after Nov. 12. Canada has its own, separate increase on Oct. 27, and it hits the cheap plan harder: CA$5.99 to CA$7.99.

Updated Oct. 19, 2026: Discovery+’s own US sign-up page now lists the new prices: US$6.99 a month with ads and US$11.99 ad-free, each with a seven-day free trial for new subscribers. We found no new statement from Skydance. Canada’s increase was set for Oct. 27 when we last checked the discoveryplus.ca pricing page.

It is the first price move under new owner Skydance, which closed its takeover of Warner Bros. Discovery about a week earlier, according to Cord Cutters News. Over a year, the US ad-free hike works out to an extra US$24.

Discovery Plus price increase: old vs new prices

Plan Old New Change Year at new price Extra per year
US, with ads US$5.99 US$6.99 +16.7% US$83.88 +US$12
US, ad-free US$9.99 US$11.99 +20% US$143.88 +US$24
Canada, with ads CA$5.99 CA$7.99 +33.4% CA$95.88 +CA$24
Canada, ad-free CA$8.99 CA$9.99 +11.1% CA$119.88 +CA$12

Annual figures are 12 monthly payments before sales tax. Neither country’s current price page lists an annual plan.

When your US bill changes

If you joined on or after Oct. 13, you already pay the new rate. Everyone else moves over on their first billing date on or after Nov. 12, depending on when their monthly cycle renews. Expect an email first: Discovery+ is giving existing customers 30 days’ notice.

This is the second increase in under two years. In January 2025 the ad tier went from US$4.99 to US$5.99 and ad-free from US$8.99 to US$9.99, iTech Post noted on Oct. 14. Stack the two together and the cheapest Discovery+ plan is up 40% since the end of 2024.

Skydance hasn’t said much, and we found no public statement from the company as of Oct. 19. A spokesperson described the change to Ars Technica as part of regular pricing evaluations, according to iTech Post, which also says Skydance maintains the pricing was planned before the deal closed. We could not open the original Ars Technica report to confirm the exact wording.

Discovery Plus Canada price increase: a different company, a bigger jump

Canadian Discovery+ isn’t the same service. Warner Bros. Discovery shut its Canadian version on Feb. 17, 2026, and Rogers Sports & Media now runs a new discovery+ with its own app and website. Skydance’s deal has nothing to do with the Canadian price. Rogers set it.

Dot chart of Discovery+ monthly prices old vs new: US with ads US$5.99 to US$6.99, US ad-free US$9.99 to US$11.99, Canada with ads CA$5.99 to CA$7.99, Canada ad-free CA$8.99 to CA$9.99
Canada’s ad tier rises 33.4% on Oct. 27, double the US ad tier’s increase in percentage terms. Graphic: prompt/power

The official discoveryplus.ca pricing page says the standard plan rises to CA$7.99 and the Ad Free plan to CA$9.99 on Oct. 27, 2026. It does not say whether existing subscribers move on that date or at their next renewal. The page shows plain dollar signs; Cord Cutters News lists the same figures in Canadian dollars.

In percentage terms, the Canadian ad tier’s 33% jump is exactly double the US one. In cash it is still cheaper: CA$7.99 is about US$5.75, a dollar and change under the new US price. The more interesting number is the gap between plans. In Canada, ad-free now costs only CA$2 more than ads, down from CA$3. In the US, the gap widens from US$4 to US$5. Rogers is nudging people up a tier; Skydance is charging more for the privilege.

It fits a pattern. Rogers raised its Sportsnet+ Standard monthly plan from CA$29.99 to CA$34.99 and the Citytv+ and Sportsnet+ bundle from CA$31.99 to CA$36.99 on Sept. 22, per the same Cord Cutters News report.

What to do

  • Canadians on the ad plan: do the math before Oct. 27. At CA$7.99 vs CA$9.99, ad-free costs CA$24 a year more. If ads bother you at all, switch.
  • Canadians billed by Telus, Koodo or Prime Video Channels: Discovery+ says Telus and Koodo bill those subscriptions with no immediate price change, and Prime Video Channels subscriptions are unchanged. Contact your provider with billing questions.
  • US subscribers: you have until your first bill after Nov. 12. If you watch in bursts, cancel between seasons; Discovery+ keeps its cancellation steps in its help centre. If you pay through Apple, Google, Amazon or Roku, cancel there instead.
  • Watch for bundling. iTech Post, citing Ars Technica, says Skydance plans to fold Discovery+, Paramount+ and HBO Max into one service over time, with no price or date announced.

A US subscriber who signed up on Oct. 12 got one month at US$5.99. Their Nov. 12 bill will say US$6.99 anyway.
